Q: What’s something folks should watch out for when working with a contractor or interior designer?
Madcap Cottage: "Have a realistic budget. If you have $5k and want a new kitchen or think you can refurnish your whole home for $10k, think again. HGTV has created a myth that home renovation is almost free, and that’s the furthest from the truth."
Q: What decor items are worth splurging on?
Madcap Cottage: "Find pieces that actually fit your room. If you can’t find a sofa that is the right size for a space, turn to places such as Calico Corners for a custom piece that will be perfect. You will be surprised how reasonable a custom piece actually can be."
Q: What advice would you give to your 10-year-old self?
Madcap Cottage: "Invest in Apple."
Q: Would you rather upgrade your closet, bathroom or kitchen?
Madcap Cottage: "Bathroom. A wonderful bathroom is a mini vacation."
Q: What are your best outdoor decor tips?
Madcap Cottage: "Think small. Create an area with a patio chair perfect for reading and several large pots filled with plants. The rest of the yard can come later."
Q: Could you live in a tiny home?
Madcap Cottage: "A cottage, yes, but not one of those tiny, tiny homes."

Madcap Cottage: "Clean out the fridge, freezer and pantry monthly.
Q: Which HGTV/DIY Network star would you most like to work with and why?
Madcap Cottage: "Magnolia Home. We want them to ditch the black and white and farmhouse look and embrace florals and chintz."
